Abstract

OBJECTIVE: In this study, we aimed to compare the functional results of spreader graft and spreader flap used in middle roof reconstruction in open technique rhinoplasty.

METHODS: Between April 2018 and June 2019, a total of 40 patients (18 males, 22 females; mean age: 25.5±6.1 years; range, 18 to 42 years) were included in the study. The patients were divided into two groups as those receiving spreader grafts (Group 1, n=20) and those receiving spreader flaps (Group 2, n=20). Functional outcomes and quality of life of the patients were evaluated using the Nasal Obstruction Symptom Evaluation (NOSE) Scale and Sinonasal Outcome Test-22 (SNOT-22) preoperatively and at six months postoperatively.

RESULTS: There was no significant difference between the groups in terms of age and sex. The postoperative scores of NOSE and SNOT-22 were significantly lower than the preoperative scores in both groups (p<0.001). When the groups were compared with each other, no significant difference was found in the NOSE and SNOT-22 scores (p>0.05).

CONCLUSION: The functional outcomes of spreader grafts and spreader flaps, which are widely used in middle roof reconstruction in open technique rhinoplasty are similar with significant postoperative improvement rates.
