Abstract

OBJECTIVE: This study aims to evaluate the correlation between Tinnitus Handicap Inventory (THI) and Beck Depression-Anxiety Inventories (BDI/BAI) in patients with tinnitus complaint.

METHODS: Forty-one patients (23 males, 18 females; mean age 49.1 years; range 18 to 62 years) who admitted to our clinic with tinnitus complaint between November 2012 and May 2013 were included in BDI, BAI, and THI questionnaires and their audiological evaluations were performed. The correlation between THI, BDI, and BAI scores of the patients was statistically analyzed.

RESULTS: Tinnitus Handicap Inventory scores were significantly correlated with BDI and BAI scores. There was no significant correlation between THI, BDI, and BAI scores and audilogical test results.

CONCLUSION: Since patients with high THI scores might have depressive and anxious personalities, they should be directed for psychiatric assessment.
